Translator’s Notes:

*(I might add the translation at a later time, but for now, I’m just going to be doing the Jyutping.)

*(I do not own the lyrics to this song – the lyrics belong to the writers.  I typed the lyrics myself using Google Translate.  The Jyutping was done by me.  I use Traditional Chinese characters because I like them more than Simplified characters and I taught myself Chinese using Traditional, plus they read Traditional Chinese in Hong Kong.  I use Jyutping Romanization because this is how I learned Cantonese, and I also use numbered tones for Jyutping instead of tone markers like you would use in Mandarin Pinyin or other Cantonese Romanization methods.  Please note that Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) is NOT my first language and at times my translations might be off, too literal, or wrong.  I translate songs to gain experience and I’m still learning so I apologize for any errors. ^^)

*(To translate songs, I use an online Mandarin dictionary, an online Cantonese dictionary (it is a Canto-Mando, Mando-Canto, Canto-Eng, Mando-Eng, Pinyin-Jyutping, etc., dictionary and is VERY explanatory) and a paperback Mandarin dictionary.)

*(All the awkward spacing in the Jyutping is to show the different words.  It is color-coded on my computer, but I can’t keep the colors T-T)

*(If you see a line with a tone written as “#*#” (Ex. Jyun6*2) this is sort of equivalent to “不是” (Bú Shì) in Mandarin, where “Bu” is standardly pronounced as “Bù” but changes to “Bú” if it is directly before another character pronounced with the fourth tone.  In my Cantonese dictionary, since it uses numbers for both Cantonese and Mandarin tones, “Bu Shi” is written as “Bu4*2 Shi4” instead “Bú Shì” to show that “Bu” is standardly pronounced with the fourth tone but with this particular word its pronunciation changes to the second tone.  So back to the example, “Jyun” in “情願” (Cing4 Jyun6*2), is standardly pronounced as “Jyun6” but in the word “Cing Jyun” it changes to the second tone.  This happens a few times throughout the lyrics, but again, the tone isn’t really very important when singing.  Note that there might be other exceptions as to why a character is pronounced differently.)

*(In the line, “來笑笑最強人人 have some fun”, I wasn’t really sure which pronunciation to use for “強” (Koeng4/Koeng5/Goeng6).  “Koeng4” means “Strong/Resolute/Violent/Strengthen/Make Strong/(Adv.) By Force/Capable/Of a High Standard/Better Than/Slightly More Than”.  “Koeng5” means “Compel/Force/Coerce/Make an Effort/Strive/Try Hard to”.  “Goeng6” means “Stubborn/Unyielding/Defiant”.  I am stuck on whether it is supposed to be “Koeng4” or “Goeng6” (I don’t think it’s “Koeng5” because that doesn’t go with the context of the sentence (…the strongest/most stubborn person/people).  I used “Koeng4” because I heard her pronounce the character with more of a “K” sound than a “G” but it is hard to hear clearly over the music so if it is supposed to be “Goeng6” than I was wrong.)

*(Throughout the song, the word “聲” has two pronunciations:  “Sing1” and “Seng1”.  “Sing1” is the literary pronunciation and “Seng1” is the variant.  I personally heard them saying “Sing1” instead of “Seng1” so I put that as its Jyutping, but it could also be “Seng1”, sometimes it’s hard to hear.)

*(In the line, “要靠這笑聲來發聲帶你看星星” the standard pronunciation of “這” is “Ze3” and the variant is “Ze5”.)

*(In the line, “閉上眼帶你 let go of your mind” I made the pronunciation of “帶” “Daai3*2” instead of “Daai3” because this pronunciation is only used as the last syllable for many nouns.  It follows “眼” (Ngaan5) which is a noun meaning “Eye” so I thought this might change the pronunciation to “Daai3*2”.  I might be totally wrong about this though and I’m sorry if I was.)

If you noticed that there are number tone markers instead of the symbols you see in Mandarin Pinyin, that is because Jyutping uses numbers to mark its tones.  There are six tones in Cantonese and they are as follows:Tone 1 is a High, Level sound (

)  (Ex:  媽 “Maa1”)

Tone 2 is a Low-Mid to High, Rising sound (

)  (Ex:  可 “Ho2”)

Tone 3 is a Mid, Level sound (

)  (Ex:  去 “Heoi3”)

Tone 4 is a Low-Mid to Low, Falling sound (

)  (Ex:  誰 “Seoi4”)

Tone 5 is a Low to Low-Mid Rising sound (

)  (Ex:  我 “Ngo5”)

And, Tone 6 is a Low-Mid, Level sound (

)  (Ex:  讓 “Joeng6”)

They are slightly harder to master than the five Mandarin tones, but again, keep in mind that in a song, the tones don’t really matter all that much.  *Also note that “Js” are pronounced as “Ys” in Jyutping Romanized Cantonese.  Yale Romanization uses “Y” but I use Jyutping.)

*(I hope you all liked my translation and I will post some more songs from the album soon.  Please do not edit my translation and please credit me if you would like to use it.  (I may be credited as either peach-jjinyoung.tumblr.com or kimsnugglegyu7.wordpress.com).  Feel free to like, comment, reblog, follow, etc. and remember to always support Twins, C-pop, Canto-pop and Mando-pop.  Do Ze Nei Dei ^^)
