Translator’s Notes:
*(This song is really catchy and upbeat and I like it a lot. I will warn you all now that I have ten notes for this song. So I apologize in advance.)
*(I do NOT own the lyrics to this song – the lyrics belong to the writers. I typed the lyrics myself using Google Translate. The Pinyin and translation was done by me. I use Traditional Chinese characters because I like them more than Simplified characters and I taught myself Chinese using Traditional. Please note that Chinese is NOT my first language and at times my translations might be off, too literal, or wrong. I translate songs to gain experience and I’m still learning so I apologize for any errors. ^^)
*(To translate songs, I use an online Mandarin dictionary, an online Cantonese dictionary (it is a Canto-Mando, Mando-Canto, Canto-Eng, Mando-Eng, Pinyin-Jyutping, etc., dictionary and is VERY explanatory) and a paperback Mandarin dictionary.)
*(All the awkward spacing in the Pinyin is to show the different words. It is color-coded on my computer, but I can’t keep the colors T-T)
*(When a part of the translation is in parentheses, it means that that word is implied to make the translation sound better in English. Words will be implied because Chinese is much more vague than English and sometimes doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when translated literally.)
*(The title of this song is “越跳越愛” (Yuè Tiào Yuè Ài) and it means “More Jumping, More Loving.”)
*(In the line, “你習慣坐在台下” “台” (Tái) is a Traditional character and a Simplified form of the following three characters, “檯” (Tái – Desk; Platform), “臺” (Tái – (Measure Word); Platform; Stage; Terrace; Stand; Support; Desk; Station; Broadcasting Station), and “颱” (Tái – Typhoon). “台” is being used as a Traditional character in the line and it’s definition as a Traditional character is “Surname; (Classical) You (In Letters); Platform; Taiwan (Abbreviation)”. I just felt like pointing out a fun fact…)
*(In the line, “不應該把它藏起來” “起來” (Qi Lai) has two pronunciations, “Qǐ Lái” and “Qǐ Lai”)
*(In the line, “翻山再倒海”, the pronunciation of “倒” (Dao) should be “Dào” instead of “Dǎo” because “Dào” means “Upset; To Turn Over; To Tip; To Pour; To Go Home; To the Contrary; and, Inverted” while “Dǎo” means “To Fall; To Collapse; To Topple; To Change; To Fail; To Bankrupt”.)
*(In the line, “管你姓紅黃藍白” I translated it as, “Take care of your surname, Hong, Huang, Lan, Bai” because I think that they meant that they were surnames and not colors. “紅”, “黃”, “藍”, and “白” are fairly common Chinese surnames and they are also the names of some colors. “紅” (Hong2) means “Red”, “黃” (Huang2) means “Yellow”, “藍” (Lan2) means “Blue” and “白” means “White”. I think they also used these surnames because it was a play on the colors you would see in a club setting, but I’m pretty sure that the colors are meant to be translated as the common Chinese surnames. “Take care of your surname, red, yellow, blue, white” would have been an acceptable translation as well, I suppose.)
*(In the line, “馴服地 /// 想膜拜” I made the pronunciation for ”地” (Dì) instead of “De” because I heard her saying “Di”. “Dì” means “Place” and “De” is a particle that is attached after a verb to create an adverb [ex: 輕輕地 (Qing Qing De) means Gently]. The line with “Di” means “I want to worship you at the tame place” and if it was with “De” it would mean “I tamely want to worship you.” I could have been wrong in using “Di” but I used it because that is what I heard.)
*(For this next note, I wanted to explain the usage of the word “high” in the line “越跳越 high 愛呀”. In Chinese, using the English word “high” in slang is interpreted to mean a “High or Exalted feeling” not “Getting high” off of drugs or something. “High” in Chinese has a much more innocent meaning as opposed to English since usually English speakers use it to say they are high off drugs or alcohol. For example, if you were at a party somewhere in China or Taiwan and you were having a good time, you would say that you are feeling “high” off the excitement and the fun. You could also say that spending time with friends, going to the beach, or having a favorite snack gives you a “high” feeling. This wasn’t all that relevant to the translation, I just wanted to share some more fun facts.)
*(In the line, “心花亂開 /// 愛呀” I translated the first part of this line literally to make it mean “The flowers bloom at random”. However, I am not 100% sure if this was an accurate translation and it may be some kind of slang/an idiom. I searched my dictionaries and the internet for a long time and couldn’t find an explanation, so I had to leave it the way it is. So, if I translated it incorrectly, then I apologize.)
*(In the line, “磨拳擦掌準備 /// 衝出來” the first part, “磨拳擦掌準備” (Mó Quán Cā Zhǎng Zhǔn Bèi) means “Eager for a fight and ready”. There is an idiom “摩拳擦掌” (Mó Quán Cā Zhǎng ) that means “Be Eager for a Fight; Be Eager to Have a Go at Something”. The only difference between the line in the song and this idiom is the first character, “Mo”. In the line, “磨” (Mo2) is being used and it means “To Sharpen; To Delay; Hardship; To Grind; To Rub” and “摩” (Mo2) means “To Rub”. I think that both characters for “Mo” mean the same thing in the idiom and they are just variant writings, but my dictionary only gives the idiom with “摩” written in it. Fun Note: in Cantonese, this idiom is pronounced “Mo1 Kyun4 Caat3 Zoeng2”)
*(In the line, “熱血澎湃 /// 愛呀”, “熱血” has two pronunciations, “Rè Xuè” and “Rè Xié”. This is due to the “血” character which means “Blood” and it has two pronunciations depending on the region it is being used in. In China, the standard pronunciation is “Xue4” and in Taiwan, the pronunciation is “Xie2”. ”Xie2” is also what you can hear her sing, so that is what I used. Both pronunciations are correct, however.)
*(That is it for all of my notes, again, sorry there were so many. That is also it for the whole “More” EP and I hope you enjoyed all of my translations. Please do not claim this translation as your own and please credit me if you would like to use it (I may be credited as either chubgyu.tumblr.com or kimsnugglegyu7.wordpress.com).
