Translator’s Notes:
*(This song is so nice. Aside from “Growl” this one is my favorite. I just really like that it’s a happy song and the lyrics are so sweet.)
*(I do NOT own the lyrics to this song – the lyrics belong to the writers. I typed the lyrics myself using Google Translate. The Pinyin and translation was done by me. I use Traditional Chinese characters because I like them more than Simplified characters and I taught myself Chinese using Traditional. Please note that Chinese is NOT my first language and at times my translations might be off, too literal, or wrong. I translate songs to gain experience and I’m still learning so I apologize for any errors. ^^)
*(To translate songs, I use an online Mandarin dictionary, an online Cantonese dictionary (it is a Canto-Mando, Mando-Canto, Canto-Eng, Mando-Eng, Pinyin-Jyutping, etc., dictionary and is VERY explanatory) and a paperback Mandarin dictionary.)
*(All the awkward spacing in the Pinyin is to show the different words. It is color-coded on my computer, but I can’t keep the colors T-T)
*(In the line, “用同樣言語的我和你”, “言語” (Yán Yǔ) has two pronunciations: “Yán Yǔ” and “Yán Yu”. According to my Mandarin and Cantonese dictionaries, “Yán Yǔ” means “Language” and “Yán Yu” means “Speak; Talk; Answer; and, Speech”. Google Translate says that “言語” is spoken “Yán Yǔ” and means (Speech) so I guess the tones don’t change the meaning that much. *Fun fact* In Cantonese, “言語” only has one pronunciation and it is “Jin4 Jyu5″)
*(In the line, “是多麼幸運 /// 有這樣運氣”, “運氣” (Yùn Qì) has two pronunciations, “Yùn Qì” and “Yùn Qi”.)
*(In the line, “感覺幸福得無可救藥”, the phrase “無可救藥” (Wú Kě Jiù Yào) means “Incurable/Incorrigible/Beyond Cure/Hopeless”. In my Mandarin dictionary, this phrase does not exist because the “Wu Ke” part of the phrase is technically more common in Cantonese because in Mandarin, the equivalent is “不可” (Bù Kě) = Cannot/Should not/Must not. I don’t think this is entirely accurate since “Wu Ke” is being used in a Mandarin song, so I would believe that “Wu Ke” is used by both Mandarin and Cantonese speakers. My Cantonese dictionary lists a phrase equivalent to “Wu Ke Jiu Yao” which is “不可救藥” (Bù Kě Jiù Yào). Both of these phrases mean the same, I really just think that they are interchangeable but one phrase is just more commonly used in a certain dialect. *Fun Fact* In Cantonese, “Wu Ke Jiu Yao” is pronounced “Mou4 Ho2 Gau3 Joek6” and “Bu Ke Jiu Yao” is pronounced “Bat1 Ho2 Gau3 Joek6”. And adding to this fun fact, “無” (Wú) is the Traditional and Formal form of “不” (Bù) and “沒” (Méi), which both mean “No/Not”. So having “Wu Ke Jiu Yao” would be more formal than “Bu Ke Jiu Yao”.)
*(In the line, “我故事裡完美的女主角”, “主角” (Zhǔ Jué) means “Leading Role; Lead; Lead Actor; The Main People; The Leading Actors in a Film or a Play; and, the Main Players”. It is very, very, very important to know that “角” has two pronunciations, “Jué” and “Jiǎo” and that they do not mean the same thing. “Jue” means “Chinese Musical Note; Angle; Horn; Role; Part; Actor; Content; Wrestle; Compete; Ancient Three-Legged Wine Cup; and, One of Five Musical Notes in Ancient Chinese Music”. “Jiao” means, “Angle; Horn; Horn-Shaped; (Of an Animal) Horn, Antenna, Feeler; Bugle; (N.) Corner; (N.) Cape; Promontory; and, (N.) Dime; A Tenth of a Dollar”. An example of using “Jiao” in a word would be, “三角褲 (Sān Jiǎo Kù – Briefs/Panties.)
*(Also in the line, “我故事裡完美的女主角”, I had planned on including the adlibs for entire final chorus but I didn’t include the one for this line because I had absolutely no idea what Chen was saying. I included all the other adlibs, however, I just couldn’t for the life of me figure out what he was trying to say, lol.)
*(In the line, “為你去成為更好的自己(為更好的自己)” I made the Pinyin for Lu Han’s adlib, “Wèi Nǐ Qù Chéng Wéi Gèng Hǎo De Zì Jǐ (Wéi Gèng Hǎo De Zì Jǐ)”. In the adlib, I made the pronunciation of “為” (Wei), “Wéi” instead of “Wei4” because I assumed that Lu Han meant “成為” (Chéng Wéi) which means “To Become/Turn into”. “Wéi” means “To Become” when it is pronounced with Tone 2 (é) and it means “For/Because of/To” when it is pronounced as Tone 4 (è). And also, “Because a better version of myself” doesn’t make any sense so I knew that I should use “Wei2” to make it mean “Become a better version of myself.”)
*(That is it for EXO’s entire 1st full album. (Lord knows it took me like a year, haha ^_^) Please do not claim my translation as your own and if you would like to use it, please credit me properly (I may be credited as either, chubgyu.tumblr.com or kimsnugglegyu7.wordpress.com). Remember to always support EXO, c-pop, and k-pop. Xie Xie Ni Men ^^)
