Translator’s Notes:

*(This is my absolute favorite song by Aaron Yan.  I love the music and his vocals, but I really love the meaning of the lyrics.  They are so heartfelt and touching and when he sings you can really feel the emotion in his voice coming from the words.  I think it’s a song that is relatable for a lot of people and it has a certain healing quality to it.)

*(I do not own the lyrics to this song – the lyrics belong to the writers.  I typed the lyrics myself using Google Translate.  I did the Pinyin and Translation myself, however.  I use Traditional Chinese characters just like they do in Taiwan because I prefer them to Simplified and I taught myself Chinese using Traditional characters.  Please note that Chinese is not my first language so at times, my translations might be off, too literal, or wrong.  I’m still learning, and I translate songs to gain experience, so I apologize in advance for any errors ^^)

*(To translate songs, I use an online Mandarin dictionary, an online Cantonese dictionary (it is a Canto-Mando, Mando-Canto, Canto-Eng, Mando-Eng, Pinyin-Jyutping, etc., dictionary and is VERY explanatory) and a paperback Mandarin dictionary.)

*(All the awkward spacing in the Pinyin is to show the different words.  It is color-coded on my computer, but I can’t keep the colors T-T)

*(When a part of the translation is in parentheses, it means that that word is implied to make the translation sound better in English.  Words will be implied because Chinese is much more vague than English and sometimes doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when translated literally.)

*(Throughout the song, in the Pinyin, every time you see “不” (Bu) written with the second tone (ú) instead of the standard fourth tone (ù), it is because the character following it is also pronounced with the fourth tone.  “不” is standardly pronounced with the fourth tone in Mandarin, except for when it is followed by another character of the fourth tone, in which case its pronunciation changes to tone two.  I changed the pronunciation each time this happened, for example, “Bú Shì”)

*(The title of the song, “擋不住的太陽” (Dǎng Bú Zhù De Tài Yáng) means “Unstoppable Sun”.  It can also be translated as “Irresistible Sun” or “Continuous Sun”.)

*(In the line, “灑在我胸口最暗的 /// 地方”, “地方” (Dì Fāng) is also pronounced, “Dì Fang.”)

*(In the line, “慢慢把心解凍之後 /// 變得 /// 滾燙”, “變得” (Biàn Dé) is also pronounced “Biàn De”.)

*(For the character “誰” (Shei/Shui), “Shéi” is the standard pronunciation and “Shuí” is the variant.  I personally have never heard a native Chinese speaker use “Shui” but I have heard those who have learned Chinese as a second language use it (for example, the Korean members of EXO-M and Super Junior-M use “Shui”).  Either pronunciation is correct, I just prefer to use “Shei” and it is what Aaron says in the lyrics.)

*(And finally, I have two notes for the line, “讓妳看見 /// 我最本來的模樣”.  First, I translated it as “It allows you to see who I was in the very beginning.”  A more literal translation would have been “It allows you to see my most original self/appearance.” but I thought that sounded a bit choppy so I worded it so that the sentence would flow nicely.  I didn’t want to leave out “最” (Zui4) – which means “(The) Most” or “-est” – so I used “Very” to make sure it was still in the line in some form.  Also, I used “Beginning” instead of “Original” to make the sentence sound better in English and because it goes better with “Very.”  I just wanted to point this out, sorry…  For my second note, in the line, ”讓妳看見 /// 我最本來的模樣”, “模樣” is pronounced “Mú Yàng”.  However, it sounds like Aaron is saying “Mó Yàng” instead.  This is because the first character ”模” is also pronounced as “Mó”.  With that being said, I’m not sure if it is pronounced “Mo” in this particular word because all of my dictionaries have the word pronounced as “Mú Yàng” only.  This might not mean anything and “Mo” might be the colloquial sound like in the word “熟悉” (Shu/Shou Xi).  “Mu Yang” is most likely the standard pronunciation, and “Mo Yang” is the colloquial/variant pronunciation, so I changed it to “Mo Yang”.)

*(I finally finished the entire Drama EP!!!  I plan on translating the “Cut” EP as well, and hopefully I can have at least one song from it posted before Christmas.   I hope you all liked my translation and please do not claim it as your own.  If you would like to use it, please be sure to credit me properly (I may be credited as either chubgyu.tumblr.com or kimsnugglegyu7.wordpress.com).  Remember to always support Aaron Yan and c-pop.  And in case I don’t get around to posting another translation beforehand, Sheng Dan Jie Kuai Le Da Jia (Merry Christmas everyone) ^-^)
