Translator’s Notes:
*(This song is very pretty and his vocals are so touching and emotional.)
*(I do NOT own the lyrics to this song – the lyrics belong to the writers. I typed the lyrics myself using Google Translate. The Pinyin and translation was done by me. I use Traditional Chinese characters because I like them more than Simplified characters and I taught myself Chinese using Traditional. Please note that Chinese is NOT my first language and at times my translations might be off, too literal, or wrong. I translate songs to gain experience and I’m still learning so I apologize for any errors. ^^)
*(To translate songs, I use an online Mandarin dictionary, an online Cantonese dictionary (it is a Canto-Mando, Mando-Canto, Canto-Eng, Mando-Eng, Pinyin-Jyutping, etc., dictionary and is VERY explanatory) and a paperback Mandarin dictionary.)
*(All the awkward spacing in the Pinyin is to show the different words. It is color-coded on my computer, but I can’t keep the colors T-T)
*(When a part of the translation is in parentheses, it means that that word is implied to make the translation sound better in English. Words will be implied because Chinese is much more vague than English and sometimes doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when translated literally.)
*(In the line, “誰能給我個藉口 tell me how to live without you”, the word “藉口” (Jiè Kǒu) has two written forms. The first, “藉口” is the Traditional, standard written form. The variant is “借口” (Jiè Kǒu) and it is also the Simplified written form. I used the Traditional, standard writing in my translation. Fun Fact: In Cantonese, “藉口” is pronounced (Zik6 Hau2) and “借口” is pronounced “Ze3 Hau2”)
*(In the line, “煎熬一天多一點 /// 當我 without you”, a synonym of “煎熬” (Jiān Áo) is “熬煎” (Áo Jiān). It means the same thing as “Jian Ao” (which is “To Suffer; Torture; Torment”) but the characters are just written in reversed order. This had no significance to the translation, but I just thought it would be fun to share ^^)
*(Throughout the song, in the Pinyin, every time you see “不” (Bu) written with the second tone (ú) instead of the standard fourth tone (ù), it is because the character following it is also pronounced with the fourth tone. “不” is standardly pronounced with the fourth tone in Mandarin, except for when it is followed by another character of the fourth tone, in which case its pronunciation changes to tone two. I changed the pronunciation each time this happened, for example ”Bú Shì/Is not”)
*(In the two lines, “Baby you you you you you(你是唯一)” the “(你是唯一)” in parentheses is not 100% accurate. This is just what I heard him saying. I could have been wrong, but this was all I could make out and it does make sense with the overall theme of the meaning of the lyrics.)
*(In the last line of the song, “我不能離開你卻看著你離去” I put the “我” (Wǒ) in this line even though I saw a few different lyrics that do not include it. I personally heard him say “Wo3” so I put it in my Pinyin, though it doesn’t really make a difference to the translation if it is in the Pinyin or not. If “Wo” was not included, then “I” would be implied and still be written into the translation to mean “I’m unable to part with you but I have to watch you leave”. Having “Wo” in the lyrics just solidifies that he is talking about himself. Also, I saw a few different words replacing “卻” (Què), which would be “只” (Zhǐ) and “就” (Jiù). I believe that it is supposed to be “Que” since you can hear him saying this instead of the other two words, but just in case it wasn’t the meaning of the line wouldn’t change all that much. With “Zhi3” the line would mean, “I’m unable to part with you and I can only watch you leave.” And with “Jiu” it would mean “I’m unable to part with you and I (just) watch you leave.”)
*(For the character “誰” (Shei/Shui), “Shéi” is the standard pronunciation and “Shuí” is the variant. I personally have never heard a native Chinese speaker use “Shui” but I have heard those who have learned Chinese as a second language use it (for example, the Korean members of EXO-M and Super Junior-M use “Shui”). Either pronunciation is correct, I just prefer to use “Shei” and it is what Zhou Mi says in the lyrics.)
*(I hope you all liked my translation and please do not claim it as your own. If you would like to use it, please be sure to credit me properly (I may be credited as either chubgyu.tumblr.com or kimsnugglegyu7.wordpress.com).
